January is usually the month where many of us start to implement new year’s resolutions. If health and wellness are not on your list then you may want to consider adding it. Afterall, without good health, how can you enjoy other achievements in life?
It is never too late to start thinking about making positive changes to your health. Small changes you consciously make on a daily basis have a significant impact on your overall wellness. Let’s start planning, there are not that many days left before January comes around.
Health Review
It is always beneficial to conduct a health review at the end of each year to see how your body fared. Most of us take our health for granted and usually do not pay much attention to it until something goes wrong. Every day stress, environmental pollution, food and drinks we consume are just but a few factors that contribute to sub-optimal health. If you look back at the past twelve months and remember having had numerous colds, being down with the flu, suffering from migraines and headaches, or waking up with unexplained pain and aches, then it is time to take action and set some health goals for the new year.
Health Goals
Each of our health goals will be different, but the first step is to be clear and specific on what you want to achieve. Regardless of what your health goals are, it is always a good idea to schedule an annual physical check up with your health care provider to either get a baseline or to make sure there are no pathological concerns. A visit to your nutritionist or naturopath can also help to kick start your health goals.
So what is it that you want from your health? Here are some popular health goals:
- “I want to look and feel great”
- “I want to improve my energy level”
- “I want to be more mentally alert”
- “I want to age well”
Once you have set an overall health goal, be specific on what you need to do to achieve them. Consider setting daily and weekly to-do list and review monthly or quarterly to make sure you are on track. If you view your health like you would a business, your health will thrive. A point to note, what you eat, how you live and how you think have direct impact on how you feel. So when you are setting your health goals, be sure to address all aspects that contribute to good health.
Christmas and New Year are only two days of the year, so if you do over indulge on those days, just remember that every health choice you make the other 363 days will help you achieve your health and wellness goals. Nourishing your body and making wellness part of your new year’s resolution is probably one of the best gifts you can give yourself for this festive season.
